In my last entry I told the story of how Mark Harrison, United Roofing, told me that Eric Antos was doing work under United Roofing's name and that my beef should be with Eric, not Mark. Mark said there was a lawsuit with Mark and two other duped customers against Eric.

I asked to speak to those customers. Mark said he'd give me their numbers. That was May 23, 2013.

On June 4, after repeated inquiries by me, Mark said the other parties didn't want to get involved and he was not able to give me their numbers.

So, there's a lawsuit. I would possibly be another party to it given my situation. And they don't want me involved? Sure.

As suspected, there is no lawsuit. There are no other customers. And, once again, I've been lied to.

Part of my saga with Mark Harrison's United Roofing is the issue of Eric Antos. Eric was the salesman who came and installed a temporary tarp on our house after Hurricane Sandy and wrote the work order that we executed on Nov. 30, 2012. Eric was apparently stealing from United Roofing and was fired midway through our installation. I learned this from Gary, the United Roofing crew leader, who was handling our job. It was at this time that I was put in touch with Mark Harrison directly.

On May 23, 2013, the first time I met Mark, he claimed that that any grievance I had should be taken up with Eric Antos. Mark's claim is that Eric actually did the work under false pretenses while pretending to be United Roofing. I informed Mark that I learned of Eric's firing from Gary, the United Roofing crew leader who was working on my house with United Roofing trucks in the driveway. I also reminded Mark that he and I had been in touch about this during that time period (11/30/12 - 12/18/12). Mark said that he had never been in touch with me at that time.

Mark claims that he is currently in a lawsuit against Eric Antos with two other United Roofing customers who were also duped. I told Mark I wanted their names and numbers so I could verify what he was saying. He agreed to provide them on May 23, 2013.

It is June 1. I have requested the names and numbers four times already. Mark has replied once and has not provided any of the promised information.

This is what you're dealing with when you work with Mark Harrison.

Yes, that's a screenshot of a Google search about "Salt Fork State Park" between the dates of April 19, 2013 and May 3, 2013. What does that have to do with my roof, installed by Mark Harrison and United Roofing?

When water began pouring into my garage o April 19, 2013, I texted Mark to come take a look. He only communicates by text message, though I always call his office and cell phones as well.

Despite repeatedly telling me that he or someone from his crew would come to our house, nobody came until mark came on April 29. He claimed he was on vacation (why this would have precluded someone from his crew coming is anybody's guess) and that he had witnessed a four-wheeling accident where three people were killed. He told my wife that two people were killed, a mother and a daughter. While rubbernecking the accident he went over a bridge into a river and had to swim to shore. He was so banged up and mentally distraught that he was unable to work and therefore look at my leaking roof.

A story as fantastic as this surely would have made the new, right? Me, being an interwebs kind of guy, naturally ran to Google news to read more. A mother and daughter die in a freak four wheeling accident in a state park and it doesn't garner a single news item?!? Hmm...

This is just one vignette of dishonesty in my dealings with United Roofing.

As I recounted, Mark Harrison of United Roofing claimed that I hadn't even paid him in his newest story about how I'm not even his customer.

Well, I'm not an idiot, and I called PNC Bank (where Mark happens to bank as well!)

Here is a scan of the front and back of the check that my wife wrote on Dec. 17, 2012. It was cashed at a teller window at the PNC Bank branch on High St. in Wadsworth, OH. Mark presented his driver's license as photo ID.

This was all confirmed to me by PNC's fraud department.

I received this text message from Mark Harrison, owner of United Roofing on December 14, 2012.

On April 19, 2013 water began pouring into my garage through a new roof that had been installed by United Roofing in December 2012.

After almost two weeks of calling texting Mark (he communicates almost exclusively through text message) he finally came to inspect the leaking roof on April 29. The explanation for the leak didn't smell right. And his service to that point had been so abysmal we got second, third, and fourth opinions.

Much transpired between then and May 23 when Mark finally came back to our house for next steps regarding the leak. He was supposed to come on May 22, but conveniently "had a scheduling error."

Keep in mind that I have been contacting Mark as a dissatisfied customer for over a month at this point (Apr. 19-May 23, 2013).

Upon arriving at our house Mark claimed he:
  • Cannot find his file for our job (i.e. he told me I'm not actually his customer)
  • Was never in hospital during the original job (Nov. 30-Dec. 17, 2012). He said he was in South Carolina working on a job there.
  • Had never been to our house before April 29, 2013. (This I believe, though it proves he lied about inspecting our house.)
  • He wasn't sure we had even paid him.
If I hadn't spent thousands of dollars only to get a leaky roof it would almost be funny. There's much more to this story, but this is a good level setting of what I've been dealing with.
